What a bolt!

Finally fixed my bicycle seat, and learned what a dolt I really am sometimes.

The story starts last week when I had tried REI in Hingham for a replacement seat bolt, or even a full seat clamp assembly. The bicycle repairman hunted through just about every bolt box he had, but no luck. "Try a bike shop," he recommended. Ignoring for the moment that I thought I was standing in one, I thanked him, and plotted my next move.

"I know, this weekend I'll try that shop in Pocasset I used to go to," I thought as I drove home. So after dropping the family at the beach on Sunday, I headed there. Only there was no there there. Paine's Pool and Patio had taken over the building.

A quick check of the Google Maps app on the Blackberry led me to Art's Bike Shop in North Falmouth. I got lost three different ways (don't ask me how that happens with GPS enabled directions...), but finally arrived and asked the first fellow I came across for some help. He led me to nirvana -- the bolt racks in the adjacent hardware store!

Did you know there are three hardware stores all within a few miles of my Sandwich home? I did. Did it occur to me to try there first before going bike shop hunting? Not even for a second.

Lesson learned.

So it was especially nice to be skipping the gym and returning to my outdoor route this morning. A layer of mist hung over the canal, and a nice breeze made the humidity -- oppressive even at 6 a.m. -- bearable. Truly was a beautiful ride this morning, and that's not just my seat talking.

As you can see from my photos, Sam was clearly having a good time, and the band sounded great. Sam and his fellow rookie marchers should be very proud. We certainly are.
